After seeing these at Red Racer and visiting and checking out Alan great cars I knew I had to start making my own.

I remember going to the speedway as a kid to watch cars like this tear around the track.

Monogram kit is from eBay, Chassis is a MJK chassis Red Racer had them made, wheels, are Plafit 22mm with sponge tyres, axles gears and motor are plafit 12/44 I think the ratio is. I am using the kit wheels for the front, with plafit wheel stops and spacers and a 65mm axle.

I made the frame by tracing the plastic frame onto some board (thanks Al for the tip) I am using 1mm piano wire and brass.

Will continue to post progress shots on here and my website here:

Pretty happy with the way it has turned out - thanks for all the encouragement in the build

Couple of little detail parts to be added - and I think I will do a bit of weathering make it look like a dirt track racer and then she is done...

cheers

Hey DM

Very nice , I can feel a speedway afternoon coming on . We'll have to organise a meet at either Alan's or RedRacer .

See you soon

Paul

Sprintcars are one of my favourite things to watch.
Theres nothing quite like a warm night at the speedway eating dodgy hotdogs and watching these things slide around on opposite lock and coming home covered in mud.

i haven't been for years, although like you I used to go as a kid. Might have to go and have another look

Thats an excellent job DM , great idea tracing the kit chassis and making it with piano wire.

thanks all, a lot of fun making it realised I hadn't post a finished shot from the drivers side, plus I decided to dirty it up a bit

sounds like a plan Paul - though I am not sure I want to crash it again - spent an hour last night fixing the wing - I think I might make myself a racing wing out of some card stock - one that will handle my driving  though I in my defence the crash came about due to my controller getting stuck... at least that is my story and I am sticking to it...

Hello :-) Winged Sprintcars are the greatest, they look mean! :-) That's a really good model.
I'm keen to watch or be involved in any slot racing happening around Brisbane.
I'm also keen on Dirt Track Speedway cars of all sorts, including these:

Hi Steve

which side of Brisbane you on...

Red Racer at Redcliffe has a few different options for racing with 1/32 and 1/24 cars

There is a track at Wynnum don't know much about it

For mainly 1/32 racing there are some chaps that race around the northern parts and Sunshine coast with a foray to Eaglyby as well, there is also a group that race around Logan area

Lucas at Red Racer is a good starting point

cheers
David

Hi David, I'm on Brisbane's northside but I dont mind travelling. Been to see the new Red Racer, but they weren't running at the time. It sure looks good!
Do you know of any oval track (eg: Sprintcar) racing that goes on, anywhere?

I'm also interested in Midgets and vintage Midgets. :)

That's an interesting Midget. Can you tell me what kit the resin is? It doesn't appear to be a Monogram.

An Aussie Midget in that livery has a colourful background. The "El Toro" Offy was raced in Brisbane in the 60's by the late Barry Valentinna. It's now worth a fortune!

The car is now owned by a vintage speedway enthusiast, Rex Mackay in Perth.

Barry's son (Barry Jnr) is a latter day Midget driver and is also a slot car fan. He'll just love your photo! :-)

Hi Steve

I believe it is a Strombecker

I repainted it as the was looking tired. I had the decals for the Custom Hot Indy car so used them

I have been making some Indy Roadster of late

Wonderful cars David, those big V8 front engined roadsters. :-)

I wish I'd been around then.
My favourite is your 1964 A.J Foyt #1 Offy, the last-ever roadster to win at Indy.

Is yours a slot car? If it is, I'd be keen to see the kind of chassis layout you used.

It's a shame there are no slot oval tracks for us to race on around Brisbane.
It looks like we certainly have enough cars to make a race of it! :-)

kind regards
Steve
