Why is it that while computer screens are getting wider and wider....................... website pages are getting narrower??
When I'm not racing slotcars,
I'm out in the back yard, burning food!!

Because while people are upgrading to new monitors, theres still people out there who haven't upgraded since Moses came down from Mount Sinai... and they subsequently have monitors that support hardly any resolution.
This forum for example looks absolutely massive at a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a lot of horizontal space.
I imagine there's probably also something to be said for having a narrower site is that it isn't as easy to lose your place in something you're reading
