Alternative Motor/s for NC1/NC8 Class

Post by dangermouse »

Hello

I have a few Ninco classics which have NC5 motors in them. I would like to be able to swap these out and put an NC1/8 class motor in them so I can race them. (Well ok drive them during a race :)) The price of the Ninco s is a bit much so I am searching for a less expensive motor.

I notice that some people are using the BWA motor but these are no longer available.

I have had a bit of a look on the slot car news motor site and found the following info

NINCO NC-1 (FC-130) tested 12,858-14,237 RPM /12v, tested 77gcm/12v, tested 2.6W/12v
NINCO NC-8 (FK-130) tested 13,370/12v w/inductor, 13,635 w/o inductor tested 75 gcm/12v w/inductor, 84 gcm/12v w/o inductor
BWA BWNC1 (FC-130) tested 13,832-14,315 RPM/12v tested 110-115 gcm/12v, 3.9W/12v

So from this it would seem the BWA and NC-8 have few more revs and a little more torque but the target range is < 14.5k and <120gcm of torque.

Looking at the list for alternative motors - I have found the following:

JWL/JJ Slot 1/32 Car "red endbell" (FC-130) tested 14,120 RPM/12v - http://www.jwlslotcars.net/jwlmotors.html $5 each + postage - quality unknown

M/T Racing M/T-1 (FC-130) tested 13,253-13,817 RPM/12v, tested 90-101 gcm/12v, tested 3.1-3.3W/12v
http://derbycityspeedway.com/mt%20racin ... 0page.html $7.50 + postage - quality unknown but made to order as a NC1 replacement.

BWA may produce the motors again there has been talk on the forums about this happening.

Anyone else suggest any other alternatives ?

H&R racing has a 14k motor but testing put it over 15k
H&R Racing Jack Rabbit Motor (FC-130) 14,000 RPM/12v, tested 15,364 RPM/12v
tested 146 gcm/12v, tested 5.6W/12v

Perhaps If we can find a suitable (inexpensive) motor maybe this can be added to approved list for the class?

cheers

Hey Rhys its not finding the NC-1 motors its paying the $37 (unless you got 2 for $30 that is a good buy) :) - especially when Ninco cars are $69 or more. If I am going to spend $106+ buying a slot car there are other brands that will get my money ahead of Ninco. I figure if we can find a $5-$10 motor everyone at the club will benefit.

I have ordered an adapter and I intend to see if I can use it as a master to make my own.

cheers

The Cartrix TZ 1 is rated at 13,000 rpm @ 12v (=14,950 @ 13.8 v) in theory, but I have found they are a little off the pace?? Pity, because Bruce at Cincislots doesn't seem to have a job getting them !!!

Hi Guys

Looking at DM,s stats the MT-1 is the best match . The BWA motor has been doing the rounds but my seat of the pants feeling is confirmed by Dave's figures also that it has way too much torque allowing it to pull taller gearing or a lot more weight . Unweighted they are not nice to drive , well not as nice as an NC1 anyway .

I'd be interested in testing the MT Racing if you are getting any DM , count me in for a couple . I've noticed a few guys on other forums are using them regularly also .

When you consider that our club racing has relatively small numbers ( < 20 ) finding motors to keep this fantastic class of racing alive is worth the small amount of effort involved .
