'Slotcar of the Decade'

Post by wixwacing »

OK Guys, here we go, firstlyt we need to list the contenders. Please feel free to enter as much as you like and I will transfer them onto the heading post, then, closer to the end of good old 2009 I'll figure out a way of posting a poll!

....Slot.it. Alfa 33, definately a milestone in Can-am offerings, and a Slot.it that performed beautifully on Scaley Sport with mag out of the box!!!

....Scalextric V8 Supercars, a model series that lifted public acceptance of this hobby in Oz.

....MRRC GT-40 MKIV, stunning model for scale looks (even in pace car livery) and magnet racer speed :)
Cheers,

Rob....

I've only been racing slot cars for about 6 years, so I can't very well have a full impression of the past decade of cars.

For me though

Scalextric
MG Lola
Ford Mustang

Both were insanely fast cars on plastic - and the Mustang is good on wood as well, the finish on both was excellent - although the Lola bits like mirrors, wings etc were a bit fragile, and the value for money is still there.

Slot.it
I don't really agree on the Mazda. True, it's a new car, it looks pretty, but it hasn't exactly delivered anything groundbreaking.
Porsche 956 - finish was excellent, performance is superb, and the value for money is unsurpassed, even if they are in the $70-80 price range now for the new releases. Additionally, in terms of performance, these WERE ground breaking.

Ninco
Toyota Supra - need I say more?

NSR PORSCHE 917K....

....Just ran some break-in laps with our new Piper car, absolutely awesome, goes like the clappers, great finish, a real thoroughbred, easily the benchmark for a performance slot car!

I agree with Rob Re: Slot.it. Porsche 956/962, an absolutely stellar series of models, I love the early versions I have.

The Scaley Mustang Transam is one of the fastest magnet cars there is (hard to believe but very true), what cruelled them for me was the scale appearance, I personally think Scalextric took some liberties with the moulding of the body....

....I believe the '70 Z28 Camaro is a more true to scale model (probably doesnt go as hard though).
Cheers,

Rob....

Hi Guys'
For Me it's these

Slot-it Porsche 956
Scalextric Ford Mustang & Lotus 49(Just because it's beautiful to look at)
Fly March 761 GP

If I had to keep only 4 cars from the last decade, these would be it.

The Scaley Cadillac, I forgot that one. I think it was a defining moment in RTR slotracing. A model which straddles the gap between the old and the new as far as Magnet racing goes. Of course, there are a few Ninco NC1's which were doing it for the boys on board in the nineties, but that's another story!!

I would have to go with the following:

FLY/GB Track the racing trucks ... they're most likely the coolest things ever!!!
FLY/GB Track Ford Capri & Lancia Beta ... Brutal classics, my entry to the hobby. I fear, however, they may have had their debut in the previous decade?
FLY March 761 GP or the BMW M1 ... A singleseater + excellent performance SOOB, a first for FLY?
Ninco Honda NSX JGTC or the Mosler ... Sooooooo competitive.
Scalextric MG Lola or Aston Martin DBR9 ... The screamer and the beauty.
Slot.it ... well, almost anything Slot.it really. Unrivalled looks, performance and sheer value for money!

G'day Guys,

Slot car of the decade is without a doubt the Slot.it. Mazda 787B!!!

I ran my Renown livery this morning, 2.8 out of the box on Scaley Sport with mag, a bit ho hum, sanded and taped the tyres, 2.2 seconds....

Thats tuned Scaley F1 territory, very fast, handles nice, looks awesome, great price for what you get, easily the fastest Slot.it. offering to date.

Makes our NSR Mosler evos look a little bit overpriced by comparison :)
Cheers,

Rob....

G'day all, by now you will have seen the four rounds of the SCOTD poll up and running. The first selection will be for the top two models from each round. You can have up to three votes for each round and you will be able to go back and change your vote if you change your mind between now and the new year. Remember too that it is about the 'all round' appeal of a model and not just the fastest car in the box. Livery, finish, attention to scale and value for money should all play a part in your choice.

Have fun
