A little slotcar birdie has informed me there is a new CAD/CNC track in the offing, probably about the Mount Omaney area???

New Track

Post by paulthetexan »

Howdy guys

Just to clarify Phil's comments , I picked up my routed boards from the cabinet maker on friday. Jacaranda Kitchens is situated across from red racer and I have been liasing with Dany there. Dany has an CNC machine capable of working on 1200 x 2400 sheets of MDF

At $75 a sheet supplied and routed I thought it was worth trying where as I thought if I waited until I got around to trying to route myself it probably wouldn't happen until I retired in 20 years time

My base board should be mounted to the pully system this weekend to be winched to the ceiling . From here I'm hoping things will start to motor on !

As anticipated the quality of the machining/routing is outstanding apart from a couple of very minor bumps due to my ordinary CAD skills. Mostly over lapped arcs that will need filling in one location. The next step is to start laying out the track onto the base board. I'm hoping this will happen within a couple of weeks now the sheets are fully machined with most of the focus being on arranging the profile of the fly overs and banking.

Obviously painting and taping will need to be done before we can use it but I'm hoping to organise a working be with a few fellow enthusiasts once the layout has been stitched together. It still sounds like quite a lot of work when you sit down to type it out and make a brief list but confidence is starting to build , which is good.

Anyway , soon , very soon , maybe , hopfully , there will be another new track in the neighbourhood .

Regards to all

Paul

A CAD designed routed track? Seems much like the stuff I was doing with Google Sketchup with planning out my own little two lane test track.

Will be interesting to see the final product Paul.

Put some pictures up, even in an unfinished stage!

I agree with Rob, any pictures while under construction will be appreciated.

Can't wait to get to the owner's choice for the first event... Should be very interesting...

Paul
If you have a photobucket account and tick the share box.
upload the resized photo to the photobucket album.
Under each photo is a few links you can use, i used the direct link or the html one and copy and paste it in under your text where you want the photo to go.
Phil put me on to photo bucket, the best thing i could have done.
once the photo is in you photo bucket album, you can direct people to it or use the copy and paste to get the code to where you want it.

<a><img src="http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q352 ... bucket.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

hope this helps - if i can get it , you will find it easy.
Cheers

It's certainly shaping up to be a good race! Even better when the contours go in!

Just a tip when posting pictures guys, if you can set the picture width at 650 pix in an art package or on photobucket, it will stop the scroll bars appearing!!

I was just thinking the other evening that it must be time for an update on Paul's track and lo and behold, I checked my email and there where a couple of pictures from Mount Omaney!!

This is shaping up to be what looks like a highly drivable circuit and I expect most are like me and can't wait to lay some rubber on this little beauty!! Unfortunately, because Paul is an exceptional driver anyway, the odds of beating him on his home turf are less than zilch!!! But me and the 'chicane brothers' will have a go, won't we boys!

Down boys!!

I have had a pretty good weekend for working on the track as you can see.

Must be the full moon or something , my wife even encoraged me on saturday , what the ! Anyway I'm one step closer and can't wait to have the boys over for an evening . Still a bit more to do but I'm hoping the hard stuff is over.
