Graceville was once again the scene of slotcar activity and with a diminished turn out, possibly due to the cold and wet, those that did take part had the usual variety of extreme slotcar racing. With a technical fault on red lane causing a considerable delay racing eventually got under way even if it was a little layer. But it didn’t stop a session of tuning and running class models on the working lanes. Eventually, first class was called and it was DTM’s over 20 laps.

Some nice models on the field with Scaley DTM’s well represented. A couple of Carrera made steady progress for their drivers and I eventually had some luck with an ancient SCX Astra with a pro turbo. Results were.

Race 1 DTM 20 laps

Heat 1 Best lap
1. Peter 30.95
2. Sean 26.081
3. Mick 34.08
4. William 44.08

Heat 2
1. Phil 23.55
2. John 28.03
3. Julian 26.05
4. Mark DNF
Event two was a potential destruction Derby with one of Scaleys quickest model being the subject matter. But I suppose with a lap length of more than seventy metres, drivers would be passing each other vary rarely in the scheme of things!! A chance for Mark, who was dogged by bad luck in the previous class, to shine here, and he did.
Race 2 A1GP 15 laps

Heat 1
1. Phil 20.06
2. John 22.91
3. Peter 24.00
4. Mick 23.12

Heat 2

1. Mark 24.29
2. Julian 23.83
3. William 26.56
4. Sean DNF
Next was one of my favourites and I was torn between racing an SCX DBR9 or the Scaley one, both very quick and very driveable. In the end I went with the Scaley and it didn’t let me down. Mark again stamped his authority on his heat with a very nice had painted DBR9 Gulf!!
Race 3 Aston Martin DBR9

Heat 1

1. Phil 25.24
2. Julian 25.19
3. Sean 25.26
4. Peter 26.89

Heat 2.

1. Mark 24.55
2. John 24.67
3. Mick 26.69
4. William 31.16
With time moving on the next heat was destined to be the last and weapon of choice was going to be the Slot.it Le Mans cars. Slot.it cars can be very quick but they are very sensitive to set up especially on a Scaley Sport circuit of this size. The main problem was with models slipping and sliding all over the place as they tried to get some traction. Eventually both heats were run and the results tallied
Race 4 Slot.it 12 laps

Heat 1

1. Mick 27.08
2. Sean 25.31
3. Peter 27.21
4. John 31.36

Heat 2

1. Phil 29.25
2. Julian 26.82
3. William 30.72
4. Mark DNF
Another good meeting in decidedly cool conditions but good fun none the less. The SEQSCC next meet at Graceville on Monday 3rd of August. Stay posted!

Whatever happened to Colin, the North American brown bear ?????

When I'm not racing slotcars,
I'm out in the back yard, burning food!!

When I win, it's because of my talent, not my car or my controller!
