Trophy Class for second half 2009

Post by wixwacing »

The year has seemed to fly by and with the enjoyable Historic GP trophyt class almost at an end it's time to choose the Slotcar Legends trophy class for the years second half. So let's kick off here with some ideas. and I'll put another poll up.

My suggestion is

Classic Le Mans up to 1979, open motor, alloy rims allowed?!!

Rally RAID. Most of the other classes are run or the cars at least run in one or other of the 2 clubs racing rosters except RAID rally. So why not see how they go.

Roadcars or road super cars is another class that might work too Phil. None race versions only and maybe with factory number plates on the bumpers.

What about looking at the trophy class for what it is. Driver against driver. All other classes allow plenty of variation in make/model/brand etc. Therefore for trophy, have all the cars stock standard and the same. Everyone drives the same car, same brand, same make and model. Only allow tyre changes and the usual tricks of making chassis/body a loose fit and lubing the driveline. And to throw the hat in the ring for suggested cars: Scaley modern mini, SCX Abarth or Ninco Lamborghini.

Good Idea Greig, That would put the cat amongst the pigeons! We currently have raced different models for different track types, sticking to the same model for all would be novel, but just which model? Mmmmm?

Howdy

I'm with 'Andrews' , one make , no mods , and even better if we can pick a car that will run with no weight and standard tyres .

Wich car ? Thinking low cost it would have to be SCX or Scaley . Best out of the box would have to be Scaley .

Also to be good on Board and Plastic with no modification

- scaley JGTC
- TransAm
- SCX rally of some sort , they all go pretty good
- SCX DTM
- Scaly Dodge Viper with home paint jobs to add to the liveries
- Scaly LMP

No weight and Standard Tyres, now there's a race !

But no caravans, boat trailers , camper trailers , jet ski's , fishing rod holders , cb ariels or bum cracks .

The Dodge Viper and the MERCEDES BENZ SLR McLAREN ROAD CAR are both in line so have different gearing (9/27 instead of sidewinder 11/36). Generally quicker on longer circuits.

Theres a bit of knowledge out there on SCX tweaks, it may be hard to maintain parity. A closed can motor like Scaley is probably safer or ninco but they can be a bit pricey. If many of us are buying we may be able to get a deal at a shop, can only try.

I still prefer street cars however, for a one car class the Scalextric Ferrari F430 has quite a few liveries and a few of the guys already have them. Another could be the Ninco Porsche 997 with 14 liveries and nearly everyone already owning one.

Jordan the GT40's would be ok because of the number of cars already out there but then again they do get a run in classic Le Mans. The Ninco tourers are a favourite with us already but trying to get everyone to get one will be like pulling teeth. That's why a few of the group are already running substitute cars in the class. You end up with them saying "where do you get them"? when referring to the Ninco cars or "this is a 4 door touring car and I've fitted an NC8" while shoving a converted SCX car into your face.

I still think we should be looking at cars that seldom get a run rather than cars that already get a flogging in any of the other classes we already race. The Scaley Ferrari can be run in the Modern GT class but very seldom are seen on track. They have about 8 liveries already, are the cheapest cars to buy now that SCX prices have gone up and are user friendly on both board and plastic. Then again we could go RAIDing!!!!!!! Yeehar cowboy!!!!!!!
