Trophy Class

Post by paulthetexan »

Howdy Howdy Howdy

It was an auspicious occasion at Jordans last week with the finally to regular running of the Slot Car Legends . When all was raced and done Phil had announced that he would be standing down from organising fornightly race meetings . Now this had been in the conspiring for a little while now and it was up to someone else to grab hold of the reins . So who stepped forward ........no-one !

Anyway with Phil also indicating that the title "SOT CAR LEGENDS" also being unavailable for use we are left with a fornightly gap in our racing program . So , what do we do . From my point of view we have 3 options :

1. We do nothing
2. Q32 will fill the void
3. We invent an identity and initiate a racing program

What's the answer ??????????? buggered if I know . It seems in the short term race organisation will fall onto the track owners to organise amongst themselves and I'm possative that nothing will change in the short term . In the meantime think

.................................." TRIGGER CHIEFS "....................................................................

And with that it is time to start thinking about our next TROPHY CLASS .

Think back over the last couple of years and you will agree that trophy class racing has delivered some unique and enjoyable racing . Look at the previous classe and I'm sure you will agree :
Historic GP , Porche Cup , Subaru Challenge , Street Super Cars , Mustangs , Cam-AM .
Definatley some good classes there and I'm sure we have tuned some nice slotcars out of that bunch .

I'll get the ball rolling with a couple of suggestions :

'70s F1
V8 Super Cars
GT1 Group 1
SCX GT

The idea is that our next trophy class should compliment or extend our existing regular classes and not rob or poach from them .

Other comments I have heard are that we should consider a set motor class and maybe limit drivers to one car for the duration of the series eg: tune and drive one car for the series as apposed to using different cars in each heat or for different tracks as some of us currently do .

Anyway , time to speak up and let me know what you want to run next season .

And as some Banther Fodder once said " SLOT CARS ARE THE WINNERS ON THE NIGHT "

See you in my mirrors

I'd firstly like to thanks all those who have raced with the Legends over the years and made it such a great slot racing occasion. I have had, and will continue to have so much fun with the guys in this hobby... Foxtrot, Uniform, November, as Eggy says, is the key factor, and I'm sure it will continue. The reason for retaining the exclusivity of the name is that I am fostering a small slot group on the south side, plus, I hope to have some 'in between' meetings on northside tracks with racing having more of a specialist theme. this is to supplement the racing which you guys will be organising. So, if anything, this is a golden opportunity for the local RTR racing scene to grow and diversify, and knowing you guys, I'm sure it will.

Hopefully, if there is enough response, we may even be able to have some old fashioned 'club meetings' ie race days where smaller racing groups or teams can meet at a track and have some 'us against' them races. Remeber the sunny boys, it was the start of something good and I'm sure a revival will be absolutely special!! The only problem I foresee is that there won't be enough days in the weekends!!

Lastly, as far as a special race series suggestion is concerned, I had a though a while back of racing Classic GP, possibly to include seventies models ie fly cars, Scaleys etc with a model weight limit!!????? Mmmmmm?

When I'm not racing slotcars,
I'm out in the back yard, burning food!!

When I win, it's because of my talent, not my car or my controller!

Well said Paul, in regards the future of the group - I believe as track owners we can between us all can come up with getting the racing organised out side of Q32.
Thanks to Phil for all his hard work organising everything and everyone over the last couple of years.
As for the trophy class I like the SCX GT and 70s F1, just my 2 cents.

Thats just beautiful , so you weren't tired of organising meetings , you were just tired of us ! I new there was an alterior motive , just had to wait and see what it was .

well he has gone from festering you mob to fostering another mob...

As for race class
something that is easy to buy a car if you don't have one already....as to what that is I don't know - SCX GT?? 70/80s F1

As a newbie to the racing scene I don't have cars for all the classes - I went looking for one class but found they were no longer made and bargains weren't to be found on eBay.

I also like the idea of one car for the whole series - bit like the proxy series I read about online. But only for the Trophy class - I like the fact that when I have a few cars for a class I can race them, gives me a chance to compare different brands and give a few cars a run

Bantha Fodder!!!!!!

Firstly a big thank you to phil because it has been a long hard slog and many may forget the ups and downs that we have had over the years but we have come back on track and I think we are now better then ever.

With regards to classes I have always had a fondness of the small sedans.... Now i hear you all yelling out and what not but stay with me for a second. Let me extrapolate.

Small sedans refers to the Ninco Renalt Meganes. No other cars. We race only those cars.

Here's the new novel idea. We don't have marshalls. Whoops, sorry we do that every race meet or it always seems to be the case where ever my car comes off there is no marshall! Maybe we should all wear our caps on our heads backwards!

Thats my call.

Hi folks

Come on guy , lets hear from you . I now a lot of you wanted to be involved with organising and having a say , well nows the time .

So far I have heard from the usual guys , what about the rest of you ?

There seems to be a common thread emerging already . So far the positive feedback is :

1. It has to be readily available
2. A one make class has some support

With the limited feedback so far the list reads

'70s F1
SCX GT
Renault Megans
Classic Stock Cars
V8s

If we go SCX GT I would even consider racing then with ..............."NO WEIGHT & STANDARD TYRES"

Now that would even things out . Reminds me of a modern day NC1 class !

Anyway , keep it coming .

Without puting a whole lot of thought into it the SCX GT Class with standard tyres etc might be a goer. They are cheap and robust cars with good range of cars to choose from but. Motor spec would need to be stated and no one given any leeway. Magnets in or out? Maybe have both for when we run on the different surfaces.

Howdy

So far I would imagine SCX GT to have any motor up to RX 42B .

If we choose Renault Megan I am tempted to run Non-mag for board and plastic. ????

Hey Jord , a little too early to start running a poll , wait till we get some feed back on classes .

I don't know about the stock SCX tyres unless they have changed on more recent models. I hated my Ferrari 360 until I put some urethanes on it.

Who makes 70s F1 cars ? Fly March - SCX classics? are there others?

SCX GT cars =
DBR9, Ferrari 360, Megane, BMW M3, Porsche GT3, Volvo, Corvette C6R, Seat, Audi A4
Seems like a good variety of cars is that right? What others are there?

cheers

Hey Dave, When you start to dig a little the SCX GT range isn't too shabby. Chevy Corvette C6R, Ferrari FXX, 599GTB Fiorano, 360, 550, Seta Cupra and Toledo, Aston Martin Vantage and DB9, BMW M3, Porsche 911 GT3, Morgan Aero 8 and there are others I am sure. So all up quite a list.

Hi Glen
thanks for posting the extras looks like a good range to choose from.

The Ninco Meganes look sweet, and you guys probably all have one - but so far I have only been able to find Ninco 1 cars readily available online so it might be hard for someone (read me) to find one
Seems there are/were some nice cars available though

will keep looking (but won't be buying just yet :))

Well i think that if we are to run Renault Meganes that they not be Ninco 1 cars and they don`t have to be just Nincos. They could be if you like SCX Renault Megane or whatever else of slot car maker made the Renault Megane Trophy Class car. The only thing is that we maybe or maybe not put a restriction on the motor type that we run in them. The Ninco Renault Megane come with a NC-5 Speeder motor in them. I`m just throwing something out there into the ball park so to speak. You guys are much better at deciding whats good and whats not than i am.
