Front motor scrtatch builds

The biggest problem with building front engined slotcars is to get the drive to the rear axle. The main pitfall is acquiring the spring which connects the motor to the transmission shaft. Having rounded up as many springs as possible from friends and with the Fly spares spring supply drying up, I was getting a bit desperate for some more. I have a few models lined up to be front motors and there weren't enough springs to go round!

I stumbled on some during a google search and eventually decided that MB Slot who specialise in slotcar spares of all types, was going to be the best bet. I emailed MB Slot twice without so much as a dickie bird so in desperation I googled them again and found a supplier in the UK that listed them! Another email revealed they had them and I also got the P+P price. Say no more, Paypal sorted that out and a few days later I have a pack of ten MB Slot transmission springs!! That should keep me going!

Phil,

I have a scalextric mercedes which I am thinking of down grading the motor on to a BSA motor. The motor has one of these spring things on it to connect it to the rear wheels. What is the best way of removing this from the pinion of the motor and installing it on the exchange motor. Any words of wisdom except forget it would be appreicated.

Regards

Hey Eggy

Hold the motor shaft or drive shaft ( wichever you want to remove the spring from ) with a pair of pointy nose pliers and with your fingers , twist the spring clockwise while pulling it off . Twisting the spring clockwise will expand the coil so it will release as you twist and pull . Same procedure to put the spring back on .
