The Slotcar Outhouse

Is it possible to remove the pick ups from this car and replace it with a normal pick up.. the Scalextric "Drift" car has a "screw" (goes thru chassis into pick up) - rotates 360 degrees - has four weights around it.. would like to replace this with a normal Scalextric pick up..

Thank you for your answer.. but, I need to know how to replace the braids.. do you just pull the braid out of the guide and then shove a new one in - I don't want to break/bent/tear off something.. I am more than a "novice" at this - your assistance is more than appreciated
